Are Peacocks allowed as pets in the US
Depends what state you are in. Some states ban all exotics which includes peacocks. Others allow them only under limitation.
Peacocks are allowed in Missouri. People living in rural communities all around us have them. Really should consider your neighbors before owning them because they are really irritating. They are like watchdogs and people who own them usually have African Geese and Guineas too. All 3 birds are excellent bug eaters too. I believe you can sell the Male is feathers on eBay and make some cash too.
People do have them, but they live on ranches. They are very loud and in a residential area people will complain and you wo not have your pet for very long.
I think you can. On her farm, my high school biology teacher had them. I bet it depends on where you live, though. My teacher lives in central Illinois, so it is ok here. Check around where you live. I would not keep one, though. They're very messy and are annoyingly loud. Good luck anyway.
I've known of someone that did have some. They made babies too. :)
Peafowl are legal in florida thats for sure. And as the other writer said they are noisey!, overgrown chickens that will scratch up your flowerbeds to death. Poop everywhere, scream like a child in distress and tend to get hit by cars a lot.
Pretty but they need huge areas to roam and are subject to predation by dogs and other large animals.
My cousin owns peacocks but she lives on a farm & she does not think of them as ''pets'' just like she does not think of the chickens as pets.
Someone in a city could not meet their needs as they need lots of room. I doubt very much you can have peacocks anywhere but on a farm but check with your humane society; they would know.
I believe that if a creatures needs can not be met & someone takes them in anyway, that that person is being cruel to the animal.
actually many peafowls r kept as pets in the US & abroad, especially by farmers.
however its hightly recommeded against because they r an exotic animal that have special needs, they r an extremely noisy animal that can emit a screech that can be heard for almost a full mile, & they can be aggressive & destructive.
Some states r creating ordaninces to outlaw the owning of pet peafowl.
(PeaCOCKS r male & PeaHENS r females. tho they r mistakenly called peacocks all the time.)
Yes I think so, as long as you live in an area that allows barn-yard animals, such as rural countryside farms.
yes, although you might need a permit
Unfortunately, yes. Of course, it depends on the zoning where you live. Not a great pet though-- they sound like a woman screaming and you can hear them a really long way.
Lots of people have peacocks on their properties in the US. Might not be allowed if kept in cages however.
They are very NOISY critters and the neighbors would not appreciate their unpleasant squawking.
Sure.. So are alligators.
no!
